Homemade BBQ sauce is very easy to make! You can simply alter it to suit your taste buds and compliment the meat that you are using it on.
Base ingredients:
1 can diced tomatoes, no salt added
1/2 cup dark brown sugar, packed
1/4 cup onion, diced
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon low sodium teriyaki sauce
1/2 to 1 teaspoon crushed red pepper'
1 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried mustard powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
*2 tablespoon butter
*2 teaspoon cornstarch
Step 1:
Place all above ingredients, except for the butter and cornstarch, in blender and blend at high speed until forms a puree.
Step 2:
Place puree in small sauce pan and add butter. Stir on medium low heat until butter is melted.
Step 3:
When butter is melted, add cornstarch and whisk well to mix together and keep from forming lumps. Let simmer on stove for approximately 7-10 minutes, or until the sauce thickens and becomes a dark reddish brown color.
Ideas to spice it up:
1 tablespoon honey
juice of 1 lime
chipolte pepper
extra teriyaki sauce
chicken or beef stock (for every 1/2 cup add 1 additional teaspoon cornstarch)
