Dear Ms. S,

I wanted to write a letter to you expressing my utmost gratitude and appreciation for the care that your staff provides its patients.  I have been a patient at the Heart & Family Health Institute since 2001, with a break in 2005-2007 simply due to moving out of state.  I have never crossed paths with such caring, considerate and respectable employees as I have at your facility.

I am 29 years old and began my journey with the Heart & Family Health Institute at the age of 19 years old.  Being a young patient with many chronic illnesses is no picnic and I have heard many horror stories from my peers suffering with similar chronic illnesses.  Most patients who are young experience doctors, nurses, and other office staff pushing them aside and not taking them seriously for their illnesses and symptoms.  Young people are thought of as healthy!  We are not supposed to suffer with chronic pain and illnesses at a young age and are usually labeled as hypochondriacs.

I am incredibly fortunate that I am a patient at the Heart & Family Heart Institute as I have never experienced any of these horror stories.  I have always been felt as if I have been treated as if I am the only patient in the whole building!  Words cannot express my gratitude towards each and every staff member from the 1st floor all the way up to the 5th floor (and I have actually been seen on all 5 floors).

Your nursing staff is out of this world.  The women who answer the nursing line are extremely courteous; the nurses who take my calls (I ask for and speak with a specific nurse  99% of the time, as I am most comfortable with speaking with her due to her being most familiar with my huge book of medical records) are very diligent in taking my calls and getting back to me with answers.  If I happen to speak to another nurse in the nursing department, I am treated with the same respect and dignity that many nursing departments in other doctor offices lack.

The receptionists at check in are wonderful and because I am at the Heart & Family Health Institute so often with an appointment for one of the many doctors I see, they recognize me and know me by name.  They always double check my name and insurance information, but that is part of their job.  I am greeted with a smile each and every time I walk out of that elevator and am checked in within a timely manner.  When I am called back to be seen by the doctor, whichever nursing assistant accompanies me is phenomenal.  The receptionists at the checkout counter are equally as wonderful and always accommodate my schedule with doctor appointments in a very patient manner.

My team of doctors who take care of me have never once doubted any of my list of ailments that I bring in and are very thorough in my care.  I am one of those “complicated” cases, as puzzle pieces of symptoms and laboratory work rarely fall into place easily.  My doctors, especially Dr. G, Dr. M, and Dr. C work together to form plans for my treatments and I trust them 100% with my health.  They make going in for an office visit relaxing (believe it or not!), as I know that they are committed to helping me.

When I have blood work and/or x-rays done on the 3rd floor, I feel as if it is just another visit with your facility… courtesy, respect, and smiles from checking in to having tests done.  Getting your blood drawn, especially when it is usually half a dozen or more tubes of blood, is nothing to look forward to, however, I am not bothered by being a human pin cushion.  I rarely bruise (which is an art form in itself!), I never feel any pain or discomfort, and whoever is drawing my blood and collecting urine samples make small talk during the process.  If I were to go to any other lab, such as LabCorp or Quest Diagnostics, it would be someone calling out my name, me rushing up to the door despite having a day of feeling like the rusty tin man, sticking out my arm, a quick prick of discomfort, and sending me on my way as quickly as possible to avoid any sort of question I may have as to what tests are being ordered.

The medical records department on the 4th floor is wonderful and makes me feel as if it is a breeze to gather any records I am asking for.  If my daughter happens to accompany me during my visit to the records department (or in any of the departments), she is not considered a bother, but rather acknowledged and she gets special treatment as well.

I had a sleep study done on the 5th floor and yes… it was fun!  The staff on the fifth floor in the sleep study department made everything very comfortable and answered all questions I had regarding the study.  I was put at ease immediately and made myself at home.  The lady performing the testing was wonderful.  I love to talk and she took the time to chit chat with me while putting on my electrodes and at the same time was explaining all aspects of the study.

Despite the fact that I am not at all fond of needles, tests, doctor visits, or any sort of constant care of my medical issues, I feel extremely blessed to have the best care that anyone could dream of having.  Thank you so very much for always making me feel as if I am a guest at your facility rather than just a number!

Fondly,

Melissa Fairchild
